Hello and a warm welcome to my world of lonely traveler.
My name is Jambalsuren ZOLBAYAR – but I prefer use “Amaï ”, my artist name.
I am from Mongolia, a country where the last nomad people on this planet are living in an endless, unspoiled environment. Our civilization is based on nomad values and traditions founded on love and protection of Nature. We believe we have to keep the Nature’s secrets from generation to generation.
As I mentioned it above, I am an artist, a musician more precisely.
On my journey I am following the ancient Mongolian tradition of BADARCHIN.
This is an old Mongol tradition coming from the nomads: At that time, young high skilled men, provided with the best education were going for a long journey after they had grown up and rich maturity, to emprove their knowledge and search for anwers.
Sort of messenger, explorer, ambassador, journalist of the ancient times, BADARCHINS used to explore, understand and learn about the lands and countries they crossed, spread news and information from all parts of the world and brought back knowledge to their people.
Thus BADARCHIN had always been very well-respected by Mongols who used to offer them great hospitality and honors. Marco Polo was one the few foreign traveler accepted as a BADARCHIN by Mongols and one of the most respected in history.
This tradition had been abandoned in practice through the times, but is still vivid in people’s mind as a great Mongol culture heritage.
So in order to follow the tradition this tradition that I embraced as a vocation, I left Mongolia at the age 25, on November 4 – 2005, to go around the world, pass all 6 continents (Asie, Europe, Africa, America, Antartic, Australia) and visit at least 150 countries.
During the past centuries my country has experienced long periods of blockades from the Manjur occupation to the communist regime of USSR making it very difficult for Mongols to explore other cultures and civilizations, and just as difficult for foreigners to visit Mongolia.
Thus until around 1990 Mongols lost contact with the outside world.
And the outside world lost contact with us.
Therefore, as a BADARCHIN, the purpose of my world-travel is not only to educate myself – but also to educate the rest of the world about the proud history, nomad culture and mystical traditions of Mongolia. This is also to educate Mongols who are not able to go and explore the outside world, telling them from a Mongol point of view about all its traditions, cultures and beautiful places.
Thus I wish is to be a bridge that opens Mongolia to the rest of the world.
Because we, Mongols, want to be open to others, and at the same time we need others to understand and respect our culture and traditions in order to preserve our way of living for the upcoming generations.
Finally I have a brief message to all my friends I have been given to meet during my journey:
Please, be kind to write a bit about me and about what you think of my mission. Tell also the place and time we met and good memories about what we have shared.
This is partly to have a further documentation and testimonies on my travel but also to make it easier for people I will meet in the future to understand who I am, where I am from, and what I am doing.
As you might understand it is very difficult for me to explain the same things everyday with the same intensity to all the people I meet. Thus I believe that an external point of view from people who know me or have already met me would be interesting.
I am sure this will help me to give a better introduction to the new people I will meet on my endless journey.
Amaï.

I have met Amai on a couple of occasions during his journey. First in Tel Aviv back in 2005, and recently in Madrid, where he stayed in my house for 4 days.
Amai is a decent, honorable and entertaining young man, who can make strange sounds and tell interesting stories from around the world.
I wish him good luck on his journey.
Hi everyone!
If you read this blog, this means that you have maybe met Amaï or… you may have the chance to meet him soon… don’t miss it !!
Amaï, the Mongol traveling around the world has so much to share for those who like travels, cultural exchanges, and extreme human adventures and experiences …
If you liked the film “Into the Wild” ? you will love to meet Amaï…
His experience is quite similar in its quest of absolute, through this initiatic travel he imposes to himself and at the same time he imperially needs to accomplish.
“I read somewhere how important it is in life not necessarily to be strong but to feel strong, to measure yourself at least once, to find yourself at least once in the most ancient of human conditions. That’s the way it is here”
Alexander Supertramp – Into the Wild
As you understood, Amaï is not just a back-packer who goes from place to place to visit countries around the world. His journey is part of a much bigger artistic project.
Avant-garde artist in his country (first electro-trans music composer, videaste, first “techno parade” in Mongolia seen on you tube! ), his journey is followed by many young Mongol fans for whom he represents Freedom. This very freedom that founds traditional Mongol nomad culture and that have been annihilated by years of communism.
Amaï comes from an intellectual elite family, his father used to be professor of history in Universities in USSR and Mongolia. Thus he has bi-cultural background as he lived several years in USSR.
I met him when he arrived in Casablanca-Morocco already 1 month ago (mid-October 2008).
I had the great pleasure to welcome him in my house for more than 1 week.
More over I miss our endless discussions on deep subjects as well as party times…
I was quite impressed by his great ability to adapt to all situations and to all social environments from highest class to lowest always with the same great education, respect and consideration for all the people he meets.
If you plan to lend him your couch… or host him in your house… don’t hesitate!!! you won’t regret it : he will make you travel for free!
… and you will be eternally blessed to have given hospitality to a BADARCHIN!
Chears & be curious!
Amai came to my home as a gift from the Universe, and enriched the daily lives of myself, my children and my friends with his philosophy of life. He stayed for several months with us last year, in Johannesburg, South africa, cooked for us, entertained us, counselled us, and helped every person he met to be more themselves than ever before. It was a privilege to intersect paths with him, and I know we will indeed meet again. Until then, my friend, blessings on your journey, may hospitality, warmth and care always find you, and thank you for remaining true to your instincts, and your Path. You taught us much about the value of an open, courageous heart. Your legacy lives on in all those you meet, and that, for me, is the essence of your calling. Much love, and yes, life is, indeed, beautiful!
Amai is surely one of the most fascinating person I’ve met and I have tried to follow his trip on this web-page since he left my hometown, Luanda.
Having travelled a lot myself it was a pleasure to learn from his experience and to have had the privilege of meeting a person able to live barely of the essentials of life. He has ’soooooo’ much to share and to teach abdout art, music history and life…. Amai is the confirmation that life is beautiful and that one shouldn’t be afraid of sacrifices since there is so much richness in the understanding of other people and cultures. My friend’s trip is at the same time a trip towards our inner selves and a test on human solidarity.
He is a perfect combination of body, mind and soul crossing the universe.I believe that Amai has a mission and I truly admire and respect his lonely conquest of the world. May God Bless him now, today, tomorrow and forever! I’m really happy to have met this guy.
Hi,
Me and my girlfriend met Amai for only a couple of hours on 3rd Nov ´08 on a ferry coming from Tangier in Morocco to Algeciras in Spain.
We have just recently left home in Scotland to travel around different countries, not quite in such a formal manor as Amai (being a BADARCHIN and all) although we are definetely looking for something, as we all are. I have to say, without a doubt, Amai is one of the most interesting people I have met in my life, albeit for a short time. It inspired me very much. To meet someone who, on the night we met him, was moving into his 50th country in exactly 3 years, reassured me that it was possible to see the whole world (maybe not EVERYTHING) if you really have the desire.
Besides the inspiration, the knowledge the man has is unbelievable, I would imagine due to the fact he is so interested in people, and other cultures.
I have since meeting Amai told very many people about him as he had such an effect on me. Also, I have went and bought books about Mongolia trying to find out more about his fantastic, ancient heritage he spoke of so proudly.
My girlfriend & I would like to wish you all the very best on your future travels and hope to come across you at some point again.
Take care my friend,
Slanj!
hi I wonder your life style
let me know
what is your future plan
do you always want to live alone (lonely) and
most people you’ve seen for a short time forget you, you too
and how do you find your support money
I think you’re just sick of going abroad, you need a constant life, and you should travel sometimes while working
anyway, truth is you are quite brave, but to say truly you’re young and u need constant education, work, and friends
life is not just for party show, do something usual for mongolian society, and yourself, too
HEY MONGOLIAN, proud of you that your interest, and feeling. however think again about your life, be charge of your own life
HI!
It`s very nice to meet Amai! A amazing and honest person!
have a good travel!
Hi,
I met Amai on the way back from Morocco, and something prompted me to invite him to stay at my place. Turned out to be a great decision, as we ended up spending nearly every day together for the past 8 days, feels like forever. I’ve met positive people, some of them relentlessly positive, but I’ve never met such a sincerely positive person in my life. We had a blast. Both of us had left someone special behind in Morocco, and the experience served to… soften the blow.
I read Isabelles comment above, and feel that Amai must be the real Alexander Supertramp, who by coincidence is on a poster sitting on his bus on my wall. If you want to know about going “into the wild” I pray you’ll have the good fortune of running into the travelling Mongol, who is more than a Mongol, more than a BADARCHIN, he’s a friend.
You are dood a good man. Be happy and good. From Shico…
Amai, you are my Motto. I’ve had the greatest new year party in Chicago which you hosted(He knows how to entertain others). Looking forward to see you in Chicago. So long …
we meet you in andorra, good luck Amai, and protect yourself. congratulations for the web and the incredible travel.

Amai you are our treasure. You are supposed to get richer in knowledge and wiser in vision, so that you will bring the new era in our much struggled MOngolian youth society and lead them to simple and happy life we treasured thousands of years, enhanced by education and love.
You are the change in the world I want to see (derived from Mahatma Gandhi’s famous statement)
